Microsoft – MySkills4Afrika Virtual Mentorship Portal

Project Description:
Microsoft East Africa approached us to develop the virtual mentorship collaboration tool for their MySkills4Afrika initiative.

The virtual mentorship tool is designed to enable Microsoft employees globally to contribute to improving Africa’s competitiveness. It enables interested full-time employees to contribute their time, talent, expertise and energy through mentoring, coaching and training African youth online. We believe that mentoring youth is not a choice, it’s a responsibility. We believe we will contribute to their long term success by empowering them to create more opportunities for education, employment and entrepreneurship.

One of the main pain points Microsoft was facing with their on site mentorship programme was that a high ratio of mentorships (on site) broke off due to an unsuitable match between mentor and mentee. We developed and integrated a matching system which proposes mentor matches according to the various factors the mentee selected when initiating a mentorship. The application also features extensive evaluation tools at various levels allowing both Microsoft and participating mentorship project owners to evaluate the success of the ongoing mentorship programmes.
